Want that perfect hit every time? It’s all about setting the batting tee to the perfect height to ensure that the hitter has a consistent strike zone. When it comes time to set up the batting tee, what height should you choose? Read on for details to help you decide the batting tee height that will work best for you.
How to Determine the Best Height for Your Batting Tee
Whether used for baseball or softball, professional sports or little league, the batting tee should be placed where the batter expects to make contact. Typically, the best height for the batting tee is just above belt level, so keep in mind this will change depending on the player’s height. If a player is struggling to hit the ball at this level, make minor adjustments up or down.
Determine Batting Tee Distance
The distance at which the batting tee is placed away from the batter is just as crucial as batting tee height. As the batter stands at the base, place the tee on front of the batter according to their swing, as follows:
- “L” Elbow Swing Tee Placement
If hitting using an “L” elbow swing, place the tee where the batter’s front foot lands after the stride.
- Extended Arm Swing Tee Placement
If batting with extended arms, place the tee 8-12 inches in front of where the batter’s front foot lands after the stride.
The tee can also be placed at certain locations in front of the batter depending on the pitch in order to keep the ball fair.
-
Down the Middle
For pitches down the middle, place the tee in front of the plate and just left or right of where the batter’s front foot lands after the stride.
-
Inside Pitch
Place the tee on the inside half of the plate and 6-12 inches in front of where the batter’s front foot lands after the stride.
-
Outside Pitch
Place the tee on the outside half of the plate about 6-12 inches in front of where the batter’s front foot lands after the stride.
Placing the batting tee at the correct height and distance from the batter will help to develop better batting habits. Try these tips today and see how your batting accuracy improves!
